Get The Best Setting For Diamond Solitaire Engagement Rings
Posted on: February 25th, 2010
There is a massive choice when it comes to choosing a setting for diamond engagement rings. Solitaire diamond engagement rings are by type removed from the category of multi-setting, but are by no means limited when it comes to setting choice.
The most popular setting for the solitaire diamond engagement ring is that of the prong setting. This is the classic solitaire diamond look, but even here there are choices to be made. The number of prongs and the size of setting can be varied to accentuate the stone. Flush, tension, bezel and arch settings are also great choices for solitaire diamonds. However, channel settings are not appropriate due to the one stone. A channel setting can also hide some of the better qualities of the diamond.
More elaborate settings can be made to include engravings, words or filigree designs which can be placed along the band in the place where you find an arch on simpler designs. In this way you can customise your engagement rings making them more detailed, but avoiding the use of extra accent stones.
As you are choosing engagement rings with only one diamond, you need to be able to judge the quality of the diamond. If engagement rings are using several stones, it may be possible to get away with lower quality diamonds, but your solitaire diamond needs to be outstanding as there is much else to distract you from any imperfections.
At Marlows we can guide you through the selection process so that your engagement ring is perfect for you.

Which diamond earrings are for you?
Posted on: November 10th, 2009
As with the variety of designs for diamond engagement rings, diamond earrings are available in many styles. The classic look is that of the diamond stud, also known as diamond solitaire earrings. You can get diamond earrings in anything from one-quarter carat to above two carat, which is the total weight of both earrings and come in a variety of metals.
Other designs include:
• Figural dangle designs
• Round or oval full hoops with diamonds set around the circumference
• Partial hoops with diamonds set at the front edge of the earring
• Abstract designs including twists, teardrops, clusters or twirls
• Chandelier diamond earrings
The settings of diamond earrings can vary according to the style chosen. A channel setting may be appropriate if using a lot of metal. Prong settings are the most popular setting and keep the diamond secure. A pave setting can be used where an intricate design has been used.
The shape of the diamond can vary depending on the design, however the use of princess shapes and round shapes are most widely used. Elaborate designing can make use of different shapes, and baguette and emerald shapes can be seen as accents.
In addition to diamonds, many diamond earring styles use sapphires, emeralds and rubies to create a stunning accent feature or diamond accents may be used to complement colourful designs using semi-precious gems.
At Marlows Certified Diamonds, we have a wide selection of diamond earrings for you to choose from and can provide you with help and advice to make your choice an easy one.

Showing off your diamond engagement ring in style
Posted on: November 9th, 2009
When you have the engagement ring of your dreams with a certified diamond to die for, it’s only natural that you want to get out there and show this beautiful shiny piece of jewellery off. It’s not just about your friends marvelling at the way your ring shimmers and the size of the diamonds, this ring is a symbol of your relationship and the love and commitment you and your partner have acknowledged towards each other. It is also the first announcement of your forthcoming wedding, so there are some guidelines you can follow to make sure everything goes smoothly.
The biggest faux pas is to show off engagement rings before a proposal of marriage has been made. No matter how excited you are, showing your engagement rings to a friend when window shopping shows bad taste and indicates that the sparkling diamond engagement ring means more to you than your relationship.
Once the announcement has been made, the ring is a glittering symbol of your intention to marry. However you may need to wait a little in certain circumstances if other significant events are taking place. You should never announce an engagement at another event like a wedding, birthday or baby shower. When this happens, you take away the focus and attention from the host. However a family gathering such as an annual reunion or a meal is a great venue for announcing your sparkling news.
Make a few preparations before showing the ring off:
• Get your nails manicured and have clean, well-moisturised hands as they are going to be under some serious scrutiny
• Don’t be too coy about showing off your ring. It’s your event, make the most of it!
• Keep a soft cloth with you to give the ring a quick polish, too
At Marlows Certified Diamonds we have a stunning range of diamond engagement rings and certified diamonds for you to choose from.

Simply diamonds
Posted on: October 20th, 2009
It is a simple fact that a woman wants more than one diamond in her life. Everyone is quite conversant with the traditional diamond engagement ring. Yes, women do love diamond engagement rings and accept them with gratitude. That is not the only diamond in a woman’s life though. Think about it for a moment; a diamond is the perfect gift when a young woman graduates from university.
Nothing can be more beautiful than a diamond pendant or a pair of diamond earrings for a 21st birthday celebration gift to mark this special date. Then there comes the day she becomes engaged. A diamond engagement ring is the most appropriate for that.
Then follows a diamond wedding ring to seal her vows to her beloved. Each step in the life of a woman can be marked perfectly with a diamond. There is the diamond eternity ring when a man shows how much he appreciates his wife. A diamond can mark the celebration of a much-wanted child’s birth or as a special gift for an anniversary.
Signposts of a life well spent
It is clear to see that there is a diamond too that is suitable to mark each milestone in the life of a woman and each occasion that is truly special to her. We understand the need that women have for different diamonds.
That is why we strive to bring our clients the perfect diamond gifts to mark each occasion with a diamond set in yellow gold, white gold or platinum. The guarantee of quality and authenticity we give is the fact that each diamond we sell is a certified diamond.

Classic versus contemporary diamond jewellery
Posted on: September 23rd, 2009
Diamond jewellery is something many women go weak at the knees over. It is beautiful, expensive, very valuable and it sparkles; need we say more? To cement the relationship between women and diamonds is the saying that diamonds are a girl’s best friend.
That said, should you choose contemporary diamond jewellery or go for something more classic? The answer is multifaceted, but it really all boils down to one thing; personal preference.
Choosing your stone
Choosing between contemporary diamond jewellery designs and the classic ones is like trying to decide upon night or day. They are vastly different and yet hold similar allure for women or all kinds. Each has its place, though. Contemporary designs do well with younger women who live in the moment. Classic designs suit a more mature woman that is confident with classic styles, confident that she will define her style and that her style will not define her.
Classic styles also suit the romantic and nostalgic at heart, no matter her age. The event you are attending and the outfit you are wearing will also determine the type of diamond jewellery designs you should choose. Up-beat and cutting edge calls for contemporary, while stylish, elegant and classy calls for classic.
But what it really comes down to is the design you really like and feel most comfortable with. Marlows Certified Diamonds provides you with a wide selection of diamond jewellery. There are many options in bracelets, pendants, necklaces and earrings to suit every taste and every style. A beautiful woman deserves to wear the jewellery that makes her feel good about herself.

How to select an engagement ring?
Posted on: August 24th, 2009
So, you are about to ask your girlfriend to marry you. You know that she is the one and you have been waiting to pop that all important question for a while now. You have the location where it is going to happen, and planned how you are going to ask her. The only problem is that you are clueless as to what engagement ring to choose. The selection is overwhelming and you are afraid of choosing the wrong one.
First of all, take the pressure off yourself. There are no hard and fast rules because everyone is different, but if you know your soon-to-be betrothed, the clues will be there as to what she wants.
Steps to follow when choosing the engagement ring
Step one, listen to hints. Men, your lady will probably be dropping hints of what she wants, even if the proposal is a surprise to her, for months beforehand. Do not, I repeat, do not take these hints lightly. You will be able to deduce from these hints the colour, size and type of engagement ring she wants.
Step two; ask one of her closets friends which kind of engagement ring she might like, if you are unsure. Her best friend is likely to know the kind of ring she fancies.
Step three; choose a reputable jewellery store to buy the engagement ring from, such as a retailer like Marlows.

How to know that your diamond is real
Posted on: August 11th, 2009
When you shop for a diamond ring, bracelet, necklace or earrings, how sure are you that the diamond you purchase is real? Maybe you have received a gift from a friend or relative and unsure as to whether the stone in your possession is really a diamond.
The best way to really know whether a diamond is genuine is to rely on its certification. A certified diamond, like those we sell here at Marlows, is always accompanied by a report done by experts of the GIA, Gemmological Institute of America or the IGI, the international Gemmological Institute. The report will tell you the cut, clarity, colour and carat of the diamond. A certified diamond is guaranteed to be real.
The fun newspaper test to determine authenticity
If you have received the diamond as a gift without certification, there are other ways to find out whether a diamond is real.
A great way to find out whether a diamond is genuine, without a certification proving it is a certified diamond, is to perform a simple test. You will require a piece of newspaper for this test. By placing the diamond on the newspaper you should watch the effect the diamond on the paper. The text shouldn’t be magnified in the diamond. A real, authentic diamond does not have magnifying ability meaning that if the text does become enlarged, it is not a genuine diamond.
