The Versatility of a Loose Diamond

Posted on:  March 11th, 2010

Does a loved one have a birthday approaching and you want to show them just how much they mean to you? Would you like to get them something as extravagant as a diamond, but are finding yourself unsure of what jewellery to place the diamond in? The simple solution to this is to make their eyes light up with the presentation of their very own loose diamond, to do with whatever they wish.

Loose diamonds can come in a variety of different cuts and can be used for whatever the owner desires; be it for display, watches, bracelets, rings, earrings, necklaces – the possibilities are endless.

The presentation of a loose diamond in the more traditional shapes allows your gift receiver to use the diamond for whatever they choose. The more traditional of shapes include the round brilliant-cut, which is circular and probably the most adaptable of diamonds. The princess-cut diamond is square in shape and again offers a versatile option; the oval or pear-cut offer a little twist on the traditional diamond shapes but will again be very adaptable to jewellery.

To add more exclusivity to your loose diamond, you could choose a more irregular shape, e.g. the heart-cut; after all, what tells of love more strongly than this shape? However, at Marlows Certified Diamonds we also offer you the chance to customise your diamonds in clarity, colour and carat; meaning you can make your diamond as exclusive as you like. Nothing could be more personal and beautiful than the presentation of a loose diamond to your loved one; it oozes sophistication and really will put a smile on the face of someone special.

Know Your Diamonds When Choosing Loose Stones

Posted on:  December 7th, 2009

There is a wide range of diamond engagement rings available to choose from but there are still those couples who prefer to buy a loose diamond so that they can design their own diamond engagement rings. Those that choose this route want to express their own personalities and preferences in a design that reflects their own relationship better than a pre-made ring.  However, there are some guidelines you should follow when selecting a loose diamond.

Before You Buy

Before you select your loose diamonds you should have a good idea about the design of your ring.  There are certain elements to the design, such as the setting, that can have a huge bearing on the quality of the diamond selected.  For example, using a flush or bezel setting may hide minute flaws in the gems which may look undesirable in some of the more open settings.

The choice of metal can also affect the colour of the diamonds.  Diamonds of a lower quality tend to have a yellow tinge which will be more pronounced with yellow gold bands.  A white gold or platinum setting can be used with the same stones without any issues with the stone colour.

The shape and size of the diamonds should be decided upon before buying loose diamonds.  Often jewellers have a varied selection of diamond sizes and shapes, but with prior consideration you can dramatically reduce the amount of time needed to search for the perfect stone.

At Marlows we offer a wide range of loose diamonds and diamond engagement rings.

Simply diamonds

Posted on:  October 20th, 2009

It is a simple fact that a woman wants more than one diamond in her life. Everyone is quite conversant with the traditional diamond engagement ring. Yes, women do love diamond engagement rings and accept them with gratitude. That is not the only diamond in a woman’s life though. Think about it for a moment; a diamond is the perfect gift when a young woman graduates from university.

Nothing can be more beautiful than a diamond pendant or a pair of diamond earrings for a 21st birthday celebration gift to mark this special date. Then there comes the day she becomes engaged. A diamond engagement ring is the most appropriate for that.

Then follows a diamond wedding ring to seal her vows to her beloved. Each step in the life of a woman can be marked perfectly with a diamond. There is the diamond eternity ring when a man shows how much he appreciates his wife. A diamond can mark the celebration of a much-wanted child’s birth or as a special gift for an anniversary.

Signposts of a life well spent

It is clear to see that there is a diamond too that is suitable to mark each milestone in the life of a woman and each occasion that is truly special to her. We understand the need that women have for different diamonds.

That is why we strive to bring our clients the perfect diamond gifts to mark each occasion with a diamond set in yellow gold, white gold or platinum. The guarantee of quality and authenticity we give is the fact that each diamond we sell is a certified diamond.

Classic versus contemporary diamond jewellery

Posted on:  September 23rd, 2009

Diamond jewellery is something many women go weak at the knees over. It is beautiful, expensive, very valuable and it sparkles; need we say more? To cement the relationship between women and diamonds is the saying that diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

That said, should you choose contemporary diamond jewellery or go for something more classic? The answer is multifaceted, but it really all boils down to one thing; personal preference.

Choosing your stone

Choosing between contemporary diamond jewellery designs and the classic ones is like trying to decide upon night or day. They are vastly different and yet hold similar allure for women or all kinds. Each has its place, though. Contemporary designs do well with younger women who live in the moment. Classic designs suit a more mature woman that is confident with classic styles, confident that she will define her style and that her style will not define her.

Classic styles also suit the romantic and nostalgic at heart, no matter her age. The event you are attending and the outfit you are wearing will also determine the type of diamond jewellery designs you should choose. Up-beat and cutting edge calls for contemporary, while stylish, elegant and classy calls for classic.

But what it really comes down to is the design you really like and feel most comfortable with. Marlows Certified Diamonds provides you with a wide selection of diamond jewellery. There are many options in bracelets, pendants, necklaces and earrings to suit every taste and every style. A beautiful woman deserves to wear the jewellery that makes her feel good about herself.

Blood diamonds are not the life of our diamonds

Posted on:  September 7th, 2009

Most of us have seen the movie Blood Diamonds with Leonardo DiCaprio in it. It tells of the diamond mining in Sierra Leone and the exploitation of people to mine the diamonds. It shows that the diamonds are sold to fuel warfare.

Marlows is one of the leading certified diamond specialists around today. We take great care in ensuring that we maintain the highest standard when differentiating between a blood diamond and a certified diamond.

Our customers can rest assured in the knowledge that when they purchase any diamond products from us that it is a certified diamond that has been acquired without the abuse of or loss of any human life anywhere on the planet.

Why bother with a certified diamond?

That question has been posed by many and the simple answer is this: as a third-generation family business, we have not acquired nor do we intend in the future to acquire diamonds by means of transgressing the basic human rights acts of any individuals.

For any customer who buys a diamond that is not a certified diamond the message that you send to the illegal diamond miners is that their methods of acquiring diamonds through murder and exploitation are acceptable.

Purchasing from Marlows will give you the peace of mind to know that as a certified diamond specialist, there was no blood shed for your specific investment. Always consider the plight of these people in underdeveloped countries and purchase certified diamonds from a certified supplier specialist like Marlows.

Extreme pressure creates ultimate beauty

Posted on:  September 7th, 2009

It’s akin to holding the stars in your hands when you have a handful of them. To acquire a handful of them can be as rare as getting a star in your hand. And yet, for all its beauty, the diamond is but a carbon based stone that has been put under extreme pressure.

The romantic ideals of the diamond are far too many to mention. We find them in modern day jewellery as a status of wealth. Now, be that as it may, the diamond does have other more practical uses. In engineering it is used in laser technology.

It is an amazing and inspiring story about the way in which the diamond is naturally produced. Amazing amounts of pressure and heat exert force on carbon deposits and the result is a beautiful, sparkling diamond. The diamond is one of the most indestructible stones in existence today.

A great investment

The diamond is amongst one of the most durable and most durable stones in existence today. It is because of this fact that the diamond is one of the most expensive purchases for anyone to make, but because it will last forever, your investment will never dwindle.

There is some controversy in certain parts of the world regarding how some of the world’s diamonds are acquired and the human labour that is utilized, but Marlow diamonds are not acquired in this illegal manner.

At Marlows we guarantee that any diamond purchased from us is safe and has been lawfully acquired.

How to know that your diamond is real

Posted on:  August 11th, 2009

When you shop for a diamond ring, bracelet, necklace or earrings, how sure are you that the diamond you purchase is real? Maybe you have received a gift from a friend or relative and unsure as to whether the stone in your possession is really a diamond.

The best way to really know whether a diamond is genuine is to rely on its certification. A certified diamond, like those we sell here at Marlows, is always accompanied by a report done by experts of the GIA, Gemmological Institute of America or the IGI, the international Gemmological Institute. The report will tell you the cut, clarity, colour and carat of the diamond. A certified diamond is guaranteed to be real.

The fun newspaper test to determine authenticity

If you have received the diamond as a gift without certification, there are other ways to find out whether a diamond is real.

A great way to find out whether a diamond is genuine, without a certification proving it is a certified diamond, is to perform a simple test. You will require a piece of newspaper for this test. By placing the diamond on the newspaper you should watch the effect the diamond on the paper. The text shouldn’t be magnified in the diamond. A real, authentic diamond does not have magnifying ability meaning that if the text does become enlarged, it is not a genuine diamond.

Diamond shapes are important

Posted on:  May 11th, 2009

When it comes to buying a diamond ring, the diamond shape is very important and because there are multiple shapes to choose from, finding the right one must take into consideration the shape of the hand and the fingers on which the ring will adorn.  Marlows have a wide range of diamond cuts for you to choose from, which will ensure that you pick exactly the right one.

The most common shapes are oval, pear, marquise, princess, round, emerald and heart shapes, to name a few and most brides will have a particular preference, but there are some factors which relate to a diamond shape that are crucial if you want to purchase an engagement ring that will be displayed to its best advantage.

Firstly the geometry of the diamond is critical as a poorly shaped stone will create embedded shadows and result in unbalance proportions.  Another factor is whether your diamond engagement ring will be surrounded by accent stones as these can impact and detract from the shape of the main stone.

The width of the band supporting the diamond is important as well, a broad band accents elongated stones much better than delicate bands which accent smaller stones perfectly.

A diamond engagement ring is meant to be worn for life and it is crucial that it looks good on the hand so the size as well as the shape of the diamond must be in proportion.  Women with slender tapering fingers suit princess stones perfectly while short fingers will look better with the length of a marquise or pear shaped diamond.

Whatever diamond engagement ring you choose, make sure that it will pair with any future jewellery purchases.
